Being outside the box

If Michelangelo were truthful in his Resume, he would have had to state that he was a “Painter of Ceilings”.

”Artist“ is too generic a term and would not convey the idea of exactly what his talent was or what his accomplishments were other than he was apparently a very slow worker as it took him almost five years to paint one ceiling. It’s difficult to spin the fact that he had only one job that took five years to complete.

Michelangelo was an “outside the box” thinker.

I am an artist with words.

An artist with words who thinks outside- the-box.

A painter of words.

A Wordsmith.

My past environment involved responding to requirements for a solution to a complex large-scale corporate problem usually involving very large Hardware, Software and Consulting Services.

It was necessary to explain in very simple and understandable words exactly what my solution offered and why they needed it and why it was better than any of the alternatives.

Being an outside-the-box thinker means also being able to explain to a middle-aged gentleman why he needs a Twin-Turbo for only an extra $50,000 on his soon-to-be-purchased new Porsche. The average age of a Porsche owner is a 55-year-old male.

It means having a way with words and being able to explain to an avid golfer why they need to pay $900 for a new driver because it has a very desirable Moment-of-Inertia and a very desirable Coefficient-of-Restitution.

Giving them a very warm feeling that their golfing life is about to change.

Life in Information Technology meant responding to RFPs from the Government's Information Technology Services. These were for complex solutions in their 5 Data Centres, involving requests-for-information and pricing quotations for system hardware, supporting equipment, software and services.

Wordsmithing skills and thinking outside the box are talents equal to, or perhaps even more important than, having technological expertise.

In other words, you do not have to be a Porsche mechanic to sell a beautiful Porsche complete with a Twin-Turbo.
